Who Gets the COVID-19 Vaccine First?
Health authorities are setting frameworks for how to distribute COVID-19 vaccines as efficiently as possible to end the pandemic. However, those frameworks have overlooked an important segment of the population: people with I/DD and the direct care staff that are essential to their health and well-being. People with I/DD are at higher risk of death from contracting the coronavirus, and if the vaccine is the best way to ensure they don’t succumb to its worst effects, it’s critical to consider making it available as early as possible for them and the professionals that support them.
